A Successful Outreach in Kibra Slums
In a powerful demonstration of community solidarity and support, Olympia-Wafula Foundation and Hadima Africa recently joined forces to conduct a transformative awareness program in Kibra, one of Kenya's largest informal settlements. This collaborative outreach focused on providing essential support and guidance to caregivers and families of persons living with disabilities, addressing critical gaps in community understanding and resources.
The program centered on two vital themes: inclusivity and mental wellness. Through interactive sessions and open discussions, our teams worked to break down barriers and misconceptions surrounding disability, while emphasizing the importance of mental health support for both individuals with disabilities and their caregivers. The response from the community was overwhelmingly positive, with participants actively engaging in conversations about creating more inclusive environments and recognizing the unique challenges faced by families caring for loved ones with disabilities.
A significant portion of the outreach was dedicated to connecting with the youth of Kibra, who represent the future of this vibrant community. Our teams shared inspiring stories, provided practical guidance, and took time to address the everyday challenges these young people face.
